Christmas Confessional

Good morning my friends :)

Because it's December 1st, and ONLY because it's December 1st, I am going to grace you with a Christmas post full of Christmas cheeeeeer *cheesy grin*

After reading Abbie's post over at Eight Days a Week who got it from IROCKSOWHAT, the 'ol grinch inside me started to get a teensy weensy bit excited for the holidays... so, here we go!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate... mixed with coffee :)

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I haven't gotten to play Santa yet, but when I do I will probably wrap them in newspaper like my grandpa used to and come up with an original Santa handwriting.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I hate colored lights! I always go for white and on the tree only.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, I don't think we ever have in my family.

5. When do you put your decorations up? One week before Christmas... and then they stay up for most of January :)

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? My dad always used to make Christmas morning pancakes... I miss those!

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Waking everyone up super early, coming down the stairs, and seeing the presents all over the living room :)

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was 7 years old. I got a doll from Santa that year (the one that pisses its own pants) and it ended up breaking on me, so my mom told me she would return it. I asked her how she was going to return it to the North Pole? She knew she was caught... and began to spill the beans. "What about the Easter Bunny? ....WHAT! Sooo... the Tooth Fairy isn't real either?" So disappointing...

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes, I have to! I am SO bad with secrets and surprises, I always have to cheat a little. My younger sister and I have a lifelong record of always breaking down and telling the other what we got them way before Christmas, lol.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? My mom always decorates her tree super country and full of ornaments on what seemed like every branch. I've always loved her style. When Josh and I got our first Christmas tree I added red country bows to remind me of her. I would do anything to go through my Mom's ornaments and find that old piece of dough I made from like kindergarten! She keeps everything... it's kind of adorable (love you, Mom).

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? DREAD! It's pretty until I have to drive... then I have to concentrate on not having an anxiety attack. I've spun out a time or two... and we all know about my snowboarding story. So yeah... snow sucks.

12. Can you ice skate? I would be extremely cautious trying to ice skate... all I can picture is falling backwards and bruising my tailbone.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? My parents got me and my sisters a trampoline one year and I remember it being the best thing ever, but I would have to say the best present was Josh proposing with my engagement ring on Christmas 2005 :)

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Family and Giving. I would do anything to have my family all together on Christmas again. It's just not the same when we are split down the middle with 2,000 miles in between... but I try to be there in spirit through giving thoughtful gifts, calling everyone, and wishing them a Merry Christmas.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pretzelrollos (I promise to post the recipe!)

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Old school favorite was attending my giant Italian family Christmas party. My new favorite is being with my niece and nephew on Christmas Eve.

17. What tops your tree? An angel, which reminds me... her wings fell off last year. I think I'm going to go with a star this year.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I truly enjoy the giving... receiving feels good too, but there is something about getting the perfect gift for someone and seeing their eyes light up. That's the good stuff.

19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? They're OK. I eat them. Although, I have a habit of turning them into sharp stabbing devices for some reason?

20. Favorite Christmas show? Love Actually <3 and OMG I absolutely have to watch A Christmas Story at least once during TBS's 24 hour long marathon.

21. Saddest Christmas Song? Any of them have the possibility of bringing a tear to my eye, mostly because they remind me how much I miss my family!

22. What is your favorite Christmas song?

This one...
Trans Siberian Orchestra "Christmas Canon"

Or this one...
Bon Jovi "Please come home for Christmas"

But most of all this one:

See?  This ol' scroogey-scrooge DOES have Christmas spirit after all :)

What are you most excited about for Christmas?

  2. Love Actually.....swoon! I seriously adore that movie. And my children and I can quote A Christmas Story like you wouldn't believe.

And I'm holding you accountable for that promise of a Pretzelrollos recipe. :)

  4. Good choice of movies, but I'll have to add in The Holiday (w/ Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jude Law!!!). I think I have to watch that this weekend... maybe after we put up our tree :).

  6. I'm not the hugest fan of driving in the snow, either. Iowa always gets more than what you would expect, so when we have three feet of it piled on the ground, it is never any fun to drive in...or scoop. :(

Your mom's tree sounds gorgeous! My mom and I always decorate it differently each year. Sometimes it has gold ornaments, sometimes blue and white, sometimes silver and purple, sometimes just Santa, sometimes rustic/country/homemade. All kinds of good things. It always looks lovely, though!

Have fun watching "A Christmas Story" this year! I'll be watching it, too. :)
