Here's a little looksy at my latest design project I've been working on...
My critique? Well, I wasn't really sold on the name, but time was of the essence and I needed to make a decision. I'm semi-OK with it. I know it's nothing spectacular, and compared to other logo designs it's very basic. On the up side I think it conveys "me" pretty well, and given the time provided I think I busted out a passing job.
One big thing I learned in this class is that in the design business, you really can't be a perfectionist; you can't afford to. Time is money and the more time you spend nitpicking and tweaking, the less money you make. I had to tell myself at one point that these designs were good enough, even though I knew I could probably do better.
You know what I realized? We all want to be SUPERWOMAN- it's in our genes. We say, "Oh yeah I can do that, no problem!" when inside we know it's not the easiest task and will take some time. We do this to ourselves every day- constantly setting ridiculously high expectations of ourselves, then feeling bad when we don't reach them.
Do me a favor and give yourself some credit for something you did today, whatever it is, and if you feel like sharing please leave your response in the comments :)
Oh yeah, don't forget to enter these TWO giveaways going on!
Katelynn from Inner Vision is giving away a copy of "True Whit" by Whitney Port!
The March Group Giveaway started yesterday and has some fab prizes up for grabs :)

I think its cute :) you're very talented.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I've done anything to pay myself on the back for today (I'm suffering from a bit of a hangover) but yesterday I might have bagged some freelance writing work, which is always good!

I like your design. But I do agree that we can be our own enemies sometimes. I'm really hard on myself about everything but I will try to take your advice and become more positive about my abilities
ReplyDeleteLove this post! It's so true too! I'm bad about taking on more than I can handle at times, but on the rare occasion that I do get everything done then I really do feel like Superwoman! ;) and then I require a lengthy nap! Love your design!

Oh snap, this is great!! I think it conveys you too, at least what I've seen on you on your blog :) :)
ReplyDeleteLooks really great. Good job :)
I like the design! I'm always like that when I design things too! Coming up for names was always the hardest part for me! I can never come up with anything creative.
ReplyDeleteHey Kristen!
ReplyDeleteI love what you show and teach people on here! Therefore, I've nominated you for a Liebster!
(I know you have more than 200 followers but I just love what you are working for here!)

I love that you post your projects on here! I always feel silly when I do it, but we should be proud, lots and time and energy is spent doing those things. And I love your design.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project. I can't wait til you're a big famous designer. Oh... and while you may not feel like superwoman, you are to us :)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! You are just so talented. It is so important to share something you do so very well =)
ReplyDeleteI like it! A lot!
ReplyDeleteI really need to hear that advice - that you can't afford to be a perfectionist. :)
The design is really good. It has a nice retro crafty look which is really appealing. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour graphic design makes me feel inspired to take a stab at it myself! And i'm not just saying that...it really does.
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole superwoman thing, I think we were all born to be superwoman and in some cases, Wonderwoman. Rwar!
<3
I love the texture you used! And, that letterhead layout is so great--I never liked working on letterhead design, mine always turned out so boring.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I go through this everyday at work...sometimes you just have to get it done. I used to be such a perfectionist in school, and it would take me forever to get projects done. Oh, how I remember those all-nighters like they were yesterday... Even now, sometimes, I feel terrible because I can take my time on work projects anymore...and sometimes they turn out really terrible. :/
Hey girl! I love the colors, designs, fonts! You do great work. I agree that the name is not great. It makes it sound like there are two people who work in the studio. If that's true, then I'm just an idiot...haha!
ReplyDeleteAnd I absolutely agree with the advice of not being a perfectionist. Do a good job and then move onto the next one.
Looks greattttt! I like that aspect of not making it perfect so you can do more - I wish I could apply that to some other aspects of my life so I'm going to figure one out. I would love to take a design class, so cool.
ReplyDeletelove what you have here! you're very talented with a great eye! xo
ReplyDeleteI love this, K! I'm curious to know what other names you had swimming around in your head. I LOVE that conversation bubble on the stationary coming out of the signature. I love that!
ReplyDeleteI love it when you share your design work! The layout of the letterhead is great.
ReplyDeleteBranding yourself is the hardest design process you will ever go through! I just spent 12 weeks creating round ONE of my own branding, and still have another 12 weeks to finish it --- which it won't be until we've started working and know exactly what design direction we are going and who our clientele is. And to prove exactly what you've said, I hated mine, haha. But as designers the work is never finished, but deadlines force us to.
I really love it actually. And I was thinking, even before I read that you didn't like it, that I really liked your logo. It's simple but classy and artistic all at the same time. And best of all, your design really does feel like you!
ReplyDeleteI'm learning that my most difficult client is definitely myself! I'm just never satisfied! Lol. At some point I just have to tell myself that I'm finished with an assignment and just walk away from it - otherwise I'd be tweaking it forever!
