Interviews are my favorite!
I love asking lots of random questions and getting to know someone through their answers! Don't you?
Today I invite you to get to know Melissa...
a style/fashion blogger who's also a new mom... take it away g-friend!
Tell us a little bit about you and your blog:I am an Atlantic Canadian gal, recently turned new mom, who has a huge love of shoes and fashion! The name of my blog, Sigh...Gush...Gasp, comes from my 3 reactions to clothing, shoes, pretty much anything that has to do with fashion! I am from Saint John, New Brunswick where I am a high school teacher. I teach mathematics and dance. I am also a dance teacher in the community. I have been married for 6 years to my wonderful husband, Greg; we have one fur baby named Huggie and a beautiful 4 month old daughter named Adele.
Where do you get your style inspiration?I get my style inspiration mostly from other bloggers and photos in magazines and on the internet. A few of my favorite bloggers are Kate of O My Heart, Tieka of Selective Potential, Kendi Everyday and Veronika of Girl and Closet. There is such a great and inspiring community of fashion bloggers to draw from!
What trends are you loving this spring?I am loving the coloured jean trend this spring! I think it is a great way to add colour to any outfit and a colour that may not look great on you when worn as a top can usually be done as a bottom. I am also loving colour blocking and am hoping to experiment with this in my wardrobe more!
What's one trend you wish would go away and never return? The one trend that I wish would go away and never return is fringe on jackets and vests. I just don't like the look of it.
Who is your fashion icon?I don't know if I have a particular fashion icon, but a designer that I love is Michael Kors. He makes the most gorgeous bags and shoes! It is a dream of mine to own one of his gorgeous totes!
Where did you score your favorite maternity clothes during the pregnancy? When I was pregnant there were no maternity stores in my hometown so I had to scope out maternity stores on the trips we were going on. Some of my favorites are Destination Maternity for their great prices (they carry a lot of sale items from Motherhood maternity and A Pea in the Pod), Queen Bee Maternity, Target and Kohls! I also found a lot of the time the way some of the clothes are made now can be used for maternity clothes, so just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can't shop at your favorite places! I still shopped at my favorite local boutique (Je Suis Prest) throughout my pregnancy! I am also happy to say that now there is a maternity store in my hometown called Belly Beautiful so if we decide to have another child I will be shopping there!
What's one of your style secrets? As a new Mom I no longer have as much time or money to put into my outfits, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice looking stylish! One of my tips is if you want to dress up an outfit, have a great pair of neutral heels and a great bag; they can dress up any outfit in a snap! Also shop sales and use your coupons wisely! In Canada we have very strict couponing laws but I live an hour away from the US border so we shop down there a lot. If you shop at places like Kohls that give you Kohls cash to use later you can snag some really great deals! My latest deal was a dress for me for $0.61 and one for my daughter for $0.25, and that was online... with taxes and shipping the total was $2.88!
Do you prefer to match or mix it up?Lately I have been prefering to mix it up; experimenting with colourblocking and with mixing colour and different patterns!
Shoe therapy can get expensive. How do you shop smart?Shoe shopping can definitely get expensive, and I love shoes! I am lucky because I live close to the US border and we have a store called Marden's. They have some fabulous deals on shoes. Most pairs are no more than $50 and when they are that expensive you know originally they were at least 3 times that. My best shoe deal from there is a gorgeous pair of Michael Kors for $15!
Let's say it's your hubby's birthday weekend...but you just won an all expense paid trip to NY Fashion Week!
What would you do?
For me this would be the trip of a lifetime! So what I would do is convince hubby he should come with me and we would celebrate his birthday while away too! I would make sure to plan a few things that he likes. It would be easy to convince him to tag along as he loves the stock market and would love to see the NASDAQ building! I would even see if we could extend our stay or go early to make it more of a celebration for his birthday!
Sooo... does anyone else want her as a shopping buddy?
Two dresses for less than $3? That's talent right there.
