I only grew up with one grandparent... his name was George and he was one hell of a dude. He rocked suspenders, brought us donuts every Sunday, smoked like a chimney, and had that kind of raspy laugh that made you giggle along.
Every Christmas we would go over his house and he always did the same thing - he wrapped our presents with newspaper. It was kind of his thing.
Now, as a little kid I just thought he was being cheap by not buying the good stuff, but now I realize he had it right all along - wrapping gifts with newspaper can be beautiful with its timeless taste and a vintage feel, not to mention it's eco-friendly...
Good goin' Gramps ;)

What's your favorite way to wrap a gift?

This an awesome! I will probably steal this idea since I'm a tight budget this winter. Thank you Grandpa George for the inspiration :) xo
ReplyDeleteI love it! I never thought wrapping with newspaper could look good, but it really can! I think the secret is in the details!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good! What a great use for newspaper once its been read, it's like double recycling. :)

Very sweet story. Newspaper wrap all the way!
ReplyDeleteI love all these wrappings! I wrap and then use ribbon, which of course I curl.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I always like seeing how creative people can be with wrapping their gifts, and this is definitely sweet and unique (and environmentally friendly). Are you going to follow in his footsteps ;)

Love these ideas!
ReplyDeleteI hate wrapping gifts. There are tons of people out there that just love it and go all out but that's SO not me. I usually end up needing a bunch of tape because I kinda suck at wrapping, haha.
ReplyDeleteBut I must say that I really do love the idea of just using plain brown wrap. Maybe I'll do that instead of buying a new roll of christmas paper every year.
Oh, I love these! My grandmother used to give us ours in trash bags....classy:)
ReplyDeleteAs well as newspaper or brown wrap, you can also use tin foil - anything goes really!
ReplyDeleteThat guy knew what he was doing! I've done that a couple of times for birthdays and it always turns out beautifully. Mainly because you can add a ribbon to make it feminine or masculine, according to who it's for. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI always did magazine pages. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, these are gorgeous! Definitely have to give that a try!
ReplyDeleteWhat great ideas, so resourceful!

These ideas are so fun! Maybe I'll use newspaper this year? Because... Lord knows I haven't bought any wrapping paper yet.
ReplyDeleteMy aunt did this as well! She sounds a lot like your grandpa :) I love these pics!
ReplyDeleteSo creative! Love this idea, thanks for sharing!

This is super creative! I couldn't even tell you why we all spend so much on themed wrapping paper when we just rip it open to get to the present...blows my mind. I love the idea and look of wrapping presents in either newspaper or plain brown paper with a bow. Simple and adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! All the presents look so cute.

I love love love these ideas!
ReplyDeleteHe was definitely one great guy! I don't know why I don't wrap with wrapping paper.
ReplyDeleteI remember some years when my parents would wrap our gifts in the comics from the newspapers. I didn't think about it at the time that they were probably doing it because we were poor… I just saw it as an extra gift b/c now I got to read the comics as well as play with my new toy! Lol. You're right though that it is also very eco-friendly, which is awesome. Maybe they were on to something.
