FF: April Showers {Navy & Orange}

I really love the rain.

I love the sound, the smell, and the way it cleans the air.

Sometimes too much rain can make me feel a little blue... until sun stops by and together they make a rainbow baby.

So for today's Friday's Fancies "April Showers" edition, I stole some "blue" inspiration with NAVY and paired it with one of the boldest colors in the rainbow... ORANGE! Or tangerine if ya wanna be fancy...
Rainy Navy & Orange

This is a really fun color combo, one of my favorites. It's interesting though, because I don't have any rainy weather attire in my real life wardrobe... I never think about it.

I'm usually the one that forgets my umbrella and doesn't realize it's raining until I walk outside. Since I'm probably running late I don't have time to run back in and switch out my non-waterproof flats, so I skip over puddles and spend the ride to work with heat blasting on my cold feet. Let's just hope I grabbed my coat with the hood... we all know how important a good hair day is ;)

What's your favorite rainy weather look?

Design Project Spotlight!

Here's a little looksy at my latest design project I've been working on...

My critique? Well, I wasn't really sold on the name, but time was of the essence and I needed to make a decision. I'm semi-OK with it. I know it's nothing spectacular, and compared to other logo designs it's very basic. On the up side I think it conveys "me" pretty well, and given the time provided I think I busted out a passing job.

One big thing I learned in this class is that in the design business, you really can't be a perfectionist; you can't afford to. Time is money and the more time you spend nitpicking and tweaking, the less money you make. I had to tell myself at one point that these designs were good enough, even though I knew I could probably do better.

You know what I realized? We all want to be SUPERWOMAN- it's in our genes. We say, "Oh yeah I can do that, no problem!" when inside we know it's not the easiest task and will take some time. We do this to ourselves every day- constantly setting ridiculously high expectations of ourselves, then feeling bad when we don't reach them.

Do me a favor and give yourself some credit for something you did today, whatever it is, and if you feel like sharing please leave your response in the comments :)

Oh yeah, don't forget to enter these TWO giveaways going on!

Music Mondays: OLDIES

Happy Monday! Are you guys ready for some OLDIES?!
image via
One of my favorite things to do is put on some old tunes preferably from the 50's and 60's; they always seem to get me in a good mood! Even when N'Sync and Backstreet Boys were taking over my generation, I was buying The Beach Boys and Righteous Brothers CD's. I think I've always liked to go back and appreciate where music has evolved from. To me, good music is timeless!

Want to participate? Put together your playlist (Grooveshark works best), grab this code, stick it in your post somewhere, and link up below! Then go check out what everyone else is jamming to while you tend to your Monday duties :)

So, I have a little announcement to make...
This will be the last Music Monday series.
I know, I'm sad too.

As an artist and blogger I need to keep inspiration alive by creating and working on new things. Staying tied to one series every Monday is starting to feel less and less exciting, and I'm trying to avoid "obligation" posts where I need to post something on a specific day. I believe making this change, among others, will make me a better blogger in the long run.

I've so enjoyed hearing everyone's music choices while getting to know you a bit more. I'll probably always incorporate music somehow into my blog, I just won't be featuring it as a link up anymore. Thank you for everyone's participation- I hope you had as much fun as I did!

Currently loving...

Happy Friday, friends! Instead of putting together an outfit today I saw this fun little idea on Lauren's blog and thought I would do my own round of current favorites! Do we have some in common?

Josh got me a start up kit for Valentine's and it's made such a difference in my skin... love!

I snuck a good pour of this stuff one morning from the work fridge and fell in love
(yeah- I'm that employee).

I was disappointed when Josh said my Theraflu got wiped out from Walgreen's, but this lifesaver got me through my St. Patty's surprise weekend flu virus... and tastes exactly like the original.

Hi, GDS Confessions readers! I'm so excited to be here with you today!
My name is Katelyn and I blog over at Inner Vision.

I'm a Communications student in Milwaukee, WI. I'm a waitress, working to put myself through school.
I'm a writer, musician, photographer, and lover of all things social media.
I love Jesus Christ with my whole heart and I always try my hardest to put Him and my faith first.
If you stop by my blog, you can expect glimpses into my inspirations, photography, faith, day-to-day experiences, and lessons learned.

Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Sarcastic, caring, silly.

Q: What prompted you to start blogging?
A: Honestly, it just randomly popped in my head one day to do it because I wanted an outlet to write whenever I wanted instead of just in school and the next day, I started my blog.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on a Friday night?
A: Well, if you look at my looks like I just LOVE to work on Friday nights. Haha. Oh, the joys of being a waitress.

Q: When do you feel most confident?
A: I feel most confident when I take control of my life and allow God to fill me with happiness.

Q: Tell us about one of your most embarrassing moments.
A: Hmmm, I say and do a lot of "embarrassing" things. How do I choose just one? Well, I guess let's go with one that happened this past week. I went to the Wisconsin Dells for a few days with my best friends this week and we were at a water park and we were chillin' in our double tube floatin' around the lazy river and there was a super hot lifeguard on duty. Whenever we would pass him I would make kissy faces at him and wink at him when he wasn't looking and one time I did it and he turned around and it was SUPER awkward.

Q: Which of the Disney princesses do you relate with most and why?
A: Ariel, because she's a redhead like me. She was always my favorite.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed?
A: I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was in kindergarten, but now I want to do something with photography or communications.

Q: How do you define "success"?
A: I define success in following where your passion takes you and doing things you love.

Q: It's karaoke night and your BFF drags you on stage...what song do you rock out to?
A: Spice Girls have always been a karaoke favorite of mine.

Q: Say your blog gets to 1,000,000 followers tomorrow...what would you share knowing so many people would hear you?
A: I would definitely pray that God's words would flow through me and help me to write a post that would plants seeds of faith in those that read my blog and encourage those that already follow Christ in their faith.

Creative Breakdown

So, I have this Business & Marketing class right now. It's giving me a whole lot of helpful information that excites and overwhelms me at the same time.

But in the last two weeks I've been assigned a lot... a lot, a lot.

I've had to come up with my own freelance design business name, the logo, the business card, letterhead, envelope, promotional post card, and memorabilia piece to leave behind at client meetings. I also have to bid my first job complete with an estimate worksheet and cover letter. That's on top of my web design project creating a fully functioning Lord of the Rings website by Monday. Oh, and the day job, plus blogging, while having the flu.

Dear Kristen,
We are about to meet very soon.
Your Nervous Breakdown

My school is a little different than most colleges since it's career training; it's very fast paced and requires your full attention. Sometimes it's a lot like drinking from a fire hose... too much too fast and I barely have time to gasp for air.

I'm having one of those moments... especially because this flu has set me so far behind on what I needed to accomplish over the weekend. It feels like everything is building up this intense pressure inside of me demanding me to produce something amazing right away.

Sometimes when I design I'm too much in my head. The deadlines are chanting at me telling me I can't do it and the worry of critique and judgement float around laughing at me.

This is when I begin to doubt myself...
doubt that I'm good enough,
that I'm not right for this industry,
that I'm completely in over my head.
I shut down.
I can't even look at a computer screen.
I hit a wall and have to figure out a way around it.

I take a break and breathe deep, allowing my intuition take the wheel. Sometimes the hard part is trusting that it knows how to drive, but when I do, that is when I'm finally able to let go. And when something beautiful emerges out of this crazy process... that's when I know it was worth it.

I hope I'm not the only one with self doubt... how do you push through it?

Music Mondays: St. Patrick's Day

If it wasn't for this dreadful flu, I would have enjoyed the weekend with some fun, drunken, Irish-inspired St. Patrick's Day festivities. Instead, I was permanently laid up in bed feeling weak, tired, and absolutely miserable :( So much for TGIF.

It was a good thing I was feeling slightly better on Sunday so I could put this fun little playlist together... inspired by the words green, gold, luck, rainbow and Irish, I found a fun combination of tunes to start off your week:

Want to participate? Put together your playlist (Grooveshark works best), grab this code, stick it in your post somewhere, and link up below! Then go check out what everyone else is jamming to while you tend to your Monday duties :)

Next week will be all about
Do you love Elvis? Frank Sinatra? Or maybe a little Doo-Wop suits your fancy?
I don't know about you but I love listening to the songs my parents and grandparents grew up with. I'm excited to see what oldies songs you connect with!

Have a lovely Monday :)

March 16, 2012

I'm so thrilled this day has arrived... I think I'm just happy to be done with work for the week, take a breath, and chill out on the coffee! I've been literally chugging it to survive the week. Coffee in the morning, iced coffee over lunch, and a cappuccino to get me through the school night... I've been WIRED mannn!

And oh my, Salt Lake had the most beautiful spring weather today. How good it feels to roll the window down a bit more and feel that warm breeze... you can just SMELL it in the air! I wish I could have had a picnic and taken the dogs for a walk... instead, I rushed home for a quick lunch hour with the hubbs and ate Josh's epic tuna sandwich while leaving the kitchen window open. Almost the same thing, right?

Anywho- I put together a cute little spring/St. Patrick's Day outfit for Friday's Fancies. We just might celebrate the holiday for the first time ever- go see a friend's band and drink some much needed beers. What do you think of this for a day look?

St Patricks Day- Green & Pink

I keep featuring colored pants in my Polyvore creations... it might be time to go buy some! I just really love this color combo; it reminds me of our wedding (which reminds me... I've been thinking about doing a little wedding post for fun... anyone interested in reading about that?).

I'm also linking up with the lovely Aunie Sauce for "Just Because Fridays". I believe I'm supposed to add a memorable photo from the past, so I thought in honor of the Irish I would show you what I look like after one too many...

I need to get this drunk again... stat.
What's everyone got planned for the weekend??
