If You Really Knew Me

I've been meaning to do one of these posts for a while now... so, here goes!
If you really knew me...

You'd know I'm extremely messy! I feel like the Tazmanian Devil - everything I touch I leave a trail of disorder behind. I always say I'll clean up later, and then end up waiting until it's unbearable.

I'm a backseat driver. BAD. My anxiety sky rockets whenever I'm in the passenger seat, and I'll end up tensing up, hanging on to handles, and blurting out cautious directions like word vomit.

But I personally think I'm the best driver on the planet and feel no anxiety when I'm the one in control :)

If you really knew me...

You'd know I swear all the time, probably too much. I don't do it a lot on the blog because I worry about offending people, but put me in a room with my closest friends and family and I will be swearing up a storm.

I'm convinced the right side of my face is completely weird and different from my left. I hate taking pictures from that angle. That's right, I have a "good side" ;)

I'm pretty scatterbrained most of the time, especially when in conversations with Josh. Storytelling is when it gets painful. I'll forget what I was going to say and drift off mid-sentence. I have a lot of unfinished thoughts... early Alzheimer's? Probably.

If you really knew me...

You'd know I smile all the time. I don't get people who don't smile.

Strangely enough though, one of my biggest physical insecurities are my front teeth. My wisdom teeth jacked them all up, and so I have this snaggle tooth that pokes out. I think about fixing them with braces or veneers one day, but then wonder if it's one of those flaws that gives character.

I strongly dislike socks. If I must wear them, I sure as hell don't spend the time making sure they match. You can understand my annoyance when people ask me to take my shoes off at their house... awkward!

If you really knew me...

You'd know I'm careful about being polite, even to those who aren't the nicest to me. I make sure to say please, thank you, and hold doors. Good manners are important to me.

But I'm not neighborly at all. I mean, I don't mind a friendly wave here and there, I just avoid getting caught up in a lengthy conversation over the weather. If that happens, I will probably be counting down the seconds until I can go inside and shut my door.

I've always been a sore loser ever since I was little. I get really hostile when I'm not winning or don't win, and it's still true. Josh and I just got in a big fight recently over the Wii because he beat me three times in a row and I threw my remote. Don't even talk to me about Monopoly...

If you really knew me...

You'd know I value my alone time, a lot. I can spend hours in my bed, on my laptop, lost in research, movies, and creative pursuits. As long as I have some music playing in the background, I can stay entertained by myself for long periods of time. This is also a big reason why I'm terrified of having children.

I feel most guilty when my inbox gets overloaded and I don't respond to everyone's comments. It haunts my thoughts a lot of the time, and I feel like a terrible blogger because of it. I just hope my readers know how much I love and appreciate them!

I feel most happy when I'm either drinking coffee, cuddling with my dogs, listening to music, kissing my hubby, watching TV series, dancing around like a maniac, laughing with my family/friends, or all of the above simultaneously.

And if you reeeeally knew me...

You'd know I envy hat people, but I've never been a big fan of hats on myself. I feel like they flatten my signature poofed hairdo, so my head feels tiny... I know, it's weird.

But, this gray and cream Crocheted Bow Hat I'm wearing changed my mind. Julie from Coco and Cocoa customized the colors for me, and I feel instantly adorable when I put it on... I mean, how can you not feel adorable when wearing a bow? I just switch into casual mode and forget about my hair for a while... which not gonna lie, is kind of nice!

You can win one of these cute crocheted bow hats too, and even pick your own colors! Enter below via Rafflecopter (open to US/Canada residents only). Or, if you would rather skip taking chances just go buy one and use "COCOANDKV" for 15% off your order :) Good luck!

  1. Loved this post lady! I am a backseat driver too. My hubby loves me for that one ;) I get waaaaay bad anxiety when anyone else drives! And I hate socks too. Hope you're feeling better!! Let's hang soon!

  2. Hahaha YES. Matching socks is the biggest waste of time ever. I do not do it...ever ever ever. I am thrilled to learn I am not alone.

  3. OK, so we are pretty much the same person. Scary.

  4. I swear we have so much in common its crazy. I’m a crazy back seat driver. I hate riding with other folks and I curse like crazy. Sometimes I’m not even aware of it.
I totally have a weird side. And I’m beyond self-conscience about my slightly bucked teeth. For the longest I didn’t show my teeth with I smiled. I hate wearing shoes & socks altogether but someone asking me to take my shoes off to enter their home annoys me.

BTW… you look too cute in that hat.

  5. isn't it crazy when you read these and find yourself agreeing with nearly every blurb? i guess that is why certain bloggers gravitate toward one another =) the neighbor comment was hilarious. my husband and i sometimes try to look out our window before the leaving the house to make sure no one next door is out there. We have a CRAZY neighbor lady that harasses us ALL the time. I'm talking even knocks on our door at all hours because she wants something. My husband's name is Kevin..she calls him "Kevey" yeah! its insane. he can not stand her and is worse about it than me. We think she watches out her window because we will go outside and she will appear. He has sometimes turned around and gone back in the house. Oi!!

great post tho - awesome to find out how much you have in common with a complete stranger =)

  6. Great Post! Didn't realize we had so much in common! Oddly enough I swear my left side is my best side and do my best to turn my face that way in pictures.

  7. I'm not a hat person either, because they flatten my curls. I will wear a fedora once in a while, but that's it! And as far as driving, I'm the complete opposite. I feel every so much safer when anyone else but me is driving!

  8. I love these posts, they definitely give us a chance to see the other side of the blogger!! PS - my good side is my left as well.

  9. The first few of these I was like, yeah, okay, I can definitely understand that... that's pretty similar to me... haha, I do that too! But then the sore loser thing. And before I got to the end of it I was thinking "Omg I'm the worse person in the WORLD for my boyfriend to play Monopoly with." I get SO COMPETITIVE. and SO MAD. And I'm the worst passenger-seat driver, too!! It really makes Andrew maaaadddd on roadtrips haha. So essentially, we are twins. <3

  10. Haha love this!! I can relate to some many of these things! Loved getting to know you more!

  11. The right side of my face is COMPLETELY different than my left side too. It's crazy... I hate taking pictures with that side!

  12. I am the exact same way in the car. Anxiety when I'm a passenger but completely okay when I'm driving. That's so funny about the fight over Wii. I CAN be competitive sometimes and have been known to throw tantrums when I'm losing at a family game. Very fun post. I love these "get to know" type. :)

  13. I hate my front teeth. Everything on my top left side is great and as it should be. On my right I have a canine that didn't come all the way down before my wisdom teeth came in and now it sticks out, a lot. I always smile small because of it.

  14. "You'd know I value my alone time, a lot."

Oh my gosh! I am the EXACT same way. I feel kind of bad because my fiance isn't an "alone" person at all. If he knows I'll be away or something like that, he'll ALWAYS make plans and do something. But if I know he'll be out for the night, I'm all "OH YEA! Alone time, baby!" I soak. it. in.

I don't know what it is but I've always been that way, even when I was younger. I'd start getting grumpy and my parents would be like "Oh, she just needs her alone time." Hahaha I don't think I'll ever grow out of it.

I'm going to need the best babysitter ever once I start popping out babies.

  16. I don't remember how I found your blog, but I've been a quiet reader for a few months now and I have to say I am inspired by your words and your openness! I think I might be becoming one of your biggest secret fans! Sending good thoughts to you today!

  17. You are adorable in that hat! I think you're converted :)

  18. When you were little you couldn't stand how you could feel the seams of your socks in your shoes and you used to cry with annoyance. And oh ya, we all knew about the poor sport side of you. But the game youn loved was don't eat pete, remember that one? Some things never change...but I love both sides of your face, your smile, and you look great in hats compared to me. I always say I look like my dad in a hat and that is so not a good look!!! You must get your sore loser from me because I used to hate losing to dad. He was good at anything he tried. As for me you must know that I hate being alone, but I am getting better...love you!!!

  19. LOVE this post! I can totally relate to the driving thing and the right side of my face thing :) and I laughed at the "throwing the game controller"....I use to do that, now I just say "I give up".

  22. You're so cute in that hat!!!!

I hear you on the messiness and liking time to yourself. I read Quiet by Susan Cain, all about introverts, and it was one of the best books ever. Also? She has an introverted husband and two kids and has somehow managed to stay sane. I think it's all about having boundaries firmly in place and making sure everyone understands your needs.

(That said, alone time is one of the reasons I'm not having kids. So I understand the fear.)

Things you don't know about me... I guess I just spilled the biggest one!

The other thing is that I swear a lot, too. I have a talent for creative cursing that makes my husband double over laughing, but I keep a tight lid on it in public because I worry about offending people, too. Or making them choke while they're eating/drinking. ;)

This was fun! The more I learn about you, the more I like.

  23. I think we're twins, seriously. I love being alone, suck at wearing hats, and am a sore loser. We've already gone over the backseat driver thing.....oh my. And you have zero snaggletooth, shush.

  27. Oh my gosh, we seriously are the same. I do all of these things!! (I was driving yesterday and kind of went into a ditch a little and hubby got mad so I got all defensive because it's the first time I've done something dumb while driving!)

You look adorable in that hat, seriously.
