I've got G-Fever

Remember when you were 12 and either obsessed with N'Sync or Backstreet Boys? You would hang posters, buy their merch, maybe send a love letter as fanmail, and if you were lucky enough to see them in concert you might pass out by being within 100 feet of their presence?

I feel just like that, but as an almost 26 year old, thanks to this guy...

Meet Mr. G-Eazy, a 23-year old white rapper from Oakland, CA. My younger sister first introduced me to his music when he was just starting out two years ago, and since then I've been listening, following, and stalking on social media, slowly watching his fanbase grow and his dream unfold.

I love him because he's the opposite of mainstream. He writes and produces all of his music, believes and works hard for his dreams, and not to mention is extremely talented. I respect the fact that he has such an appreciation for art, design, and old school music like The Beatles and Johnny Cash... plus he's gorgeous.

It's really hard not to like him.

Then I saw he was going on tour promoting his latest album, Must Be Nice, which I've been memorizing over the last few months. If you remember in my CT Travel Diaries post I mentioned his concert was a big part of the reason why I flew out there to see him perform with my sister, but then Blizzard Nemo happened and he had to cancel... #devastation

So I bought tickets to see him in Salt Lake on February 27th, which was just last week. I brought my husband along who I've also turned into a G-fan (as well as anyone else who will listen to me gush) and you'll never guess what happened...

I. MET. HIM.

You guys.

Freaking listen to this...

We get there and realize he wasn't going to be on for another hour, so we go to get drinks at the bar. I get my long island and start sipping/walking at the same time, bump into someone, say "sorry" as they say "excuse me," and look up as G-Eazy's backside walks away from me.

"...that was freaking G-Eazy... omg... THAT WAS G-EAZY!!!!!!"

*cue butterflies*

I instantly grab my husband and follow to see where he was going.

I see him sitting there in this open area by himself. It wasn't VIP or closed off - he was just chillin' in this row of chairs watching his buddy perform. As I'm standing there like a creeper and Josh is urging me to say hello, I decide I'm too cool for school and walk away upstairs too nervous to even be in his presence.

I know.

Josh said I was being ridiculous as I tried to calm down. Thankfully he convinced me we should go back down and ask if we can buy him a shot. I figured now that we have a legitimate reason to disturb him, that it was OK.

I let Josh do the talking as I'm giddy behind him and waving. I finally get to say hello and all I can do is hug him and say "I f****ing love you!!!" He looked me in the eye says, "I love you too!"

*swoon*

I could have said a million other things, taken a picture, asked for his autograph... etc., but I was so completely off my game I just said he was amazing, inspiring, and wished him luck on his performance.

I didn't really care, though - I walked away starry eyed and smiley as the adrenaline left my body and feeling very thankful to have a husband who understands G-fever ;)

The show was amazing, I sang along to every word, picked up a sweatshirt from his merch table, and didn't take it off for 5 days straight.

Here's a picture of the concert... of course some random dude decided to block out my face during the photo. I mean, seriously?

Anyway... because I love you and want you to listen to good music, I'm going to urge you to hear him out! He's not on the radio (yet), so you have to seek him out, but if you like hip hop, don't mind the f-word, and want to support someone who is completely real and down to earth, get on the G-Eazy train with me!

You can listen to all of his albums on Soundcloud, or here's a bunch of the ones I love most:

Who have you been obsessed with since pre-teen years?
Have you ever met a celebrity before?

  3. I'm kind of loving on the song "Mad"! Listened to it multiple times :)

Since I was a pre-teen? I've obsessed over waaay too many bands/singers/etc! Incubus, Coheed & Cambria, OKGo, and sooo many more! Those are just the ones I followed the most obsessively ;)

Last April, I met and got Instagram'd by a guy from the band Graffiti6 and I about died from the excitement! See, nail art is good for something, lol!

  4. That's amazing! I did the same thing when I met Kenneth from 30 Rock. I couldn't think straight. Also when I met this band Relient K. All I could do was say I love you guys and Matt T said we love you too. I was the happiest 14 year old ever. :)

  7. I've met Ramin Karimloo twice now. He's been the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, which is my favorite musical. Nerdy, right? But anyway, my dad took me on a trip to London when I graduated college, and we waited outside the theater after the show to see him. Got my picture with him and an autograph. I think I floated back to the hotel. Then in September, he was touring the States doing his own music, and my best friend and I went to see him in Chicago. We waited outside THAT theater. For an hour. In the rain. But we met him, got hugs, and a picture. Awesome night, and TOTALLY worth the freezing rain. :)

  10. I think this is my favorite post from you so far :)

I never heard of him but I downloaded Rebel immediately. I was in the mood for the title and man, it did not disappoint - love this song and I guess I am prone to G fever as well ;)

I did support various indie musicians through the years and during my time in NYC a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to meet Brandon Boyd from Incubus at a guitar store and hang out with him and I also had the chance to listen to a very private jam session from Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol before they got big. I do cherish those moments!

    Thanks for the inspiration love!
